2012 Summer Coaching Clinic.
Goalkeeping Centre of Excellence 2012 Summer Coaching Clinic.
20 young goalkeepers aged between 10yrs and 17yrs came along to our Summer Goalkeeping Clinic which was held at Macedonia Park in Stirling, included in those 20 were 5 girls which was great to see.
The goalkeepers were split into 2 groups initially which was based on age. This gave Harrison Burgess and myself Mondays session to observe them and move them around the groups, if the level of their present one wasn’t at a standard to them progressing to the next stage of development.
Our clinic sessions consisted of a goalkeeping specific warm up, main session and then a group cool down.
The sessions that we covered included:
Dealing with the back pass, Collapse save, Low diving save, Distribution mainly concentrating on striking the ball off the floor, 1v 1’s and Handling involving Footwork.
Mondays sessions included Harrison working on Handling and Footwork and myself putting on a session dealing with the Collapse save.
Tuesday’s theme was working on Low diving saves and dealing with crosses for the older group whilst the younger group worked on their goalkicks. One or two of the keepers were complaining that they were a little sore from the previous day, but the soreness seemed to be forgotten after an extensive warm up.
Wednesdays sessions consisted of myself putting on a 1v1 practice and Harrison demonstrating how to Deal with the Back pass.
Thursdays warm up consisted of a game of goalkeeper specific netball incorporating the techniques which have been taught during the week.
All the goalkeepers worked extremely hard and despite the warm conditions showed a fantastic willingness to take on board the techniques that were being asked of them.
We aim to run the Summer Clinic every year to complement our sessions that run from March until October time.
